SURGICAL TREATMENT OF LOWER BACK AND LEG PAIN

Lower back and leg pain is a very common condition in society. Some of this pain may be due to a herniated disc (disc herniation). However, many of these diseases can be treated without surgery. Surgery for herniated discs is recommended when neurological symptoms such as numbness in the feet, inability to urinate or weakness in the feet occur or if the pain cannot be relieved with other treatment methods.

INSTALLATION OF A SPINAL NEUROSTIMULATOR (PACE PAD)

This surgery is particularly effective for pain caused by mesothelioma, lung cancer, or cancer that has spread to the arm or leg.

Neurostimulators are electrical stimulators that are attached to the nervous system. These stimulators are used effectively in the treatment of various diseases in the diseased parts of the brain (brain-pain pacemaker) and spinal cord. Spinal neurostimulators (spinal-pain pacemakers) can be especially useful in patients who have had various back surgeries and whose pain does not respond to any treatment. The end electrodes of these batteries are surgically placed behind the spinal cord on the back and the generator sections are surgically placed on the side of the waist.

Some patients who have had one or more herniated discs or spinal surgeries may experience back and leg pain that does not respond to other treatments. When these stimulators are activated, they can control this type of intractable pain in the back and legs.
